Mary's Bio

I was a fine arts major at a liberal arts college. After school, I spent many years working in graphic design. Now I am back to fine arts, painting weekly with the Watercolor Connection. I have pretty high energy and like to be active physically. So, when I paint, I am happiest when I work on large pieces of paper and standing so I have freedom of movement. If the painting feels right, it is usually quick and spontaneous. If I spend too long on a painting, or think too much, I tend to lose the connection to the piece. For this reason, I love monotypes and watercolors as these media lend themselves to faster, spontaneous production. Because I am attracted to bright colors and simple shapes, I enjoy painting close-ups of fruits, vegetables and flowers.
